It's doable... the smash book
Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 05:26PM Have you heard about these yet? They take all the best parts of scrapbooking, creating a photo album and saving mementos and roll them all into one! Plus, no more hours spent with our heads hanging over a scrapbooking table! Here, watch this video:
See? How neat is that!? I loved scrapbooking, but I just don't have the time to keep up on it and I loved keeping all those little mementos (like movie stubs) but they would just end up in the bottom of my purse all the time. And then I ran across the Smash Book. It can be found several places like papersource.com and Michaels.com but definitely look around for a minute or two because some places have better pricing than others. Plus, there are a lot of little neat things like tabs, pockets, stamps, tape etc for about $2!

Here are a few excerpts from my first Smash Book (the honeymoon album). Now call me crazy, (seriously it's ok I know I am), but on the last day of our honeymoon I brought my camera to CVS and printed out our honeymoon pictures and brought them on the plane with us. By the end of the flight home my smash book was complete! There is no right or wrong way to do it, you just slop it in there and go!
This first picture is of the side of the album.

There are tabs that have sticky backs that can be purchased as one of those little side items for about $2 for a whole pack. Also, the album comes with a half pen/ half glue stick that comes with it (BUY AN EXTRA ONE OF THESE).

The middle part is our Luau program and the top left is a little smash book extra from a pack you can buy.

This page is on our Road to Hana trip. Again, as you can seen it has little mementos like a program and business card, writing around the edges and pictures.
I by no means consider myself to be a pro at this, so if you are looking for more inspiration just google it! There are some really great and creative books out there.
Now, it's on to my next one...

Came across this pin on Pinterest this morning and love it! I do regular scrapbooking so I'm not quite sure what I would do with a Smash book but I love the idea...Also, just a heads up that I've seen a smaller version of these books at my local Target for around $7.99. :)
I SMASH-ed* a bit og here n there during my 4.5 hours flight too! I was thinking how to SMASH without bringing a scissors with u.... now I gotcha... just tear the photos! thanks for the inspiration.
U can view my SMASH book here: http://www.happie-scrappie.blogspot.com/2012/04/if-you-cant-scrap-you-smash.html
I like how my 9 days trip is recorded with stubs, tickets, labels and instagram with just 10~15 pages. I probably spend a few nights at the hotel & home & on the flight doing this which add up to the time that I normally need to complete 1~2 layouts. Completely stress-free when I smash as compared to Scrapbooking. I have never thought that I would ever hook on this awesome smash-ing idea! I am so glad that I have finished smashing my Taiwan trip because god-knows-when I would be able to create a layout or two for the 1000++ pics I took during the trip.
Thanks for sharing your SMASH =)
i'm obsessed with smashbooks! love yours, girl!
What a brilliant idea,I really like your style.Especially the clippings of the most important memories and bonding share dby the families. It is worth to keep and treasured.
Love it! It's so my style. I like to scrapbook, but I'm not into the super elaborate & expensive pages. I do what I call slap-books. They look way nicer than the name implies. I use coordinated paper cut into small squares & strips. My photos are cropped mercilessly. Then I have a few embellishments and mementos. Then I just slap it all together quickly. So fun, so easy & very cute. Obviously, smashbooks suit my style. Thanks for your post.
We are headed to Lahaina tomorrow! This is such a great idea :)
There are rulers with corrugated sides (different shapes and sizes) that make ripping paper very easy and decorative. You can travel safely with these.
I took my "scrapbook" of my daughter's "first year of life" to a scrapbooking event and they made FUN OF ME!!! I thought the important thing was to get all the pictures, and stories I wanted her to know later, into one book. Apparently, that is NOT the point of official scrapbooking!
I would rather have mine look more like a smash book and be happy with getting everything in it that i want to, than to try to get it all neat & tidy and done like some snobby woman's group tells me it SHOULD look like!!!
Thank you for giving the way I like to scrapbook, a name!!!
Now, if someone gives me a weird look.....I'll just tell them is a Smash book!!! LOL ;)
Wow that's really amazing!! I think I might try this out, but doesn't it take a lot of time to make? :)
